Auguste Rodin Quote
“Art is contemplation. It is the pleasure of the mind which searches into nature and which there divines the spirit of which nature herself is animated.”
"Art by Auguste Rodin", Auguste Rodin, Paul Gsell, translated by Katharine Waldo (Douglas) Fedden, Small, Maynard, 1916
As quoted in Heads and Tales (1936) by Malvina Hoffman, p. 47

Bio: François-Auguste-René Rodin, known as Auguste Rodin, was a French sculptor. Although Rodin is generally considered the progenitor of modern sculpture, he did not set out to rebel against the past. He was schooled traditionally, took a craftsman-like approach to his work, and desired academic recognition, although he was never accepted into Paris's foremost school of art.
